Wat Phra That Khao Noi in Nan

By most people referred to as Wat Khao Noi but the full name of this temple is Wat Phra That Khao Noi. As the name suggest it is a temple on a small mountain, and mostly famous for its stunning view over Nan valley & town. Especially in the very early morning with a sunrise over Nan valley, with a 9 metre tall walking Buddha in the foreground. The 15th century temple itself is not spectacular, but due to said to be relics of Buddha it is once a year the center of one of the Phra That Festivals. When to go to the Wat Phra That Khao Noi?

All year around, daily from 6:00 - 18:00, entrance is free. Best in the very early morning for a stunning sunrise view over Nan town.

Where to go?

The Wat Phra That Khao Noi is located just 5 km (south)west of Nan town.

How to get there?

Wat Khao Noi is located just out of Nan town, too far to walk. But you could take a bicycle, private car or motorbike. Just follow route 101 south of Nan town in direction of Na Noi for about 1 km, then turn right at the traffic light (there are signs). Follow the road that at the end that will lead up-to Khao Noi. Until the foot of the mountain easy it is easy to do by bicycle, but going all the way up is only for diehards bicyclists. But a little bit up the foot is a parking from where you can take staircase with Naga's and 300 steps up to the top. Otherwise you can continue to all the way up to top and the parking behind the temple. Be aware that at some parts the road is steep.
