Nanthaburi National Park

Nanthaburi National Park, also sometimes written as Nantha Buri, is located along a dead-end road into the mountains bordering Phayao province. Besides hiking in the jungle the 2 main attractions of the park are the viewpoints. The first one at the HQ of the park. The second more famous one is called Doi Wao, about 4 km from the HQ of the park. At both places are camping grounds and are great for watching sunrise. Nanthaburi National Park is about 75 km north-west of Nan town, about 31km west of Tha Wang Pha.

There are 7 National Parks in Nan - Thailand, where nature meets adventure. Great places for jungle trekking, enjoying nature or wild water rafting. Besides National Parks there are also a few smaller forests, parks and Royal Projects.

Although all National Parks in Thailand can be visited the all year around there are some parks that close in the raining season depending on how much rain there is. The National Parks in Nan - Thailand are best to be visited at the end of the raining season or during the cool season, so from September to February. From March to June it will become a bit hot for hiking in National Parks.

For most National Parks in Thailand you will have to pay an entrance fee, for what foreigners have the privilege to pay 4 or 5 time as much as Thai people. But not all National Parks in Nan - Thailand do enforce the rule of entrance fee at all or the special foreigner entrance fee.

Remark : Since 2017 you are not allowed anymore to drink alchohol in National Parks, this thanks to people who can not control themselves while drinking alchohol and start fighting or being an disturbance to other people (or animals).

Accommodation : Many National Parks have some simple bungalows or rooms as accommodation or camping grounds. But not all, check before you are going!

How to get to Nanthaburi National Park?

By private car or motorbike follow route 101 from Nan town to Tha Wang Pha, there take route 1148 in direction of Chiang Rai. After about 10 km you will see signs to the left for Nanthaburi National Park. Follow the main road for another 20 km into the mountains, then there will be a sign to the right. From here on it is about 1.500m a kind of dirt road partly with cement or gravel. Not recommended in the raining season.

There is no public transport to Nanthaburi National Park, although you could take the bus to Tha Wang Pha and from there charter a songtheauw.
